Therapy doesn’t always have to happen indoors. For many people, conversations flow differently when we’re walking side by side in nature. Walk and Talk therapy offers the same connection and reflection as traditional therapy, but walking together outdoors reconnects us with the natural world – the weather, the seasons, and the simple rhythms of life.
Modern life keeps us still and cuts us off from one another. We sit alone at our desks, at our screens, and in our thoughts for long stretches of time.
Walking, even gently, changes our physiology – it regulates mood, lowers stress hormones, and encourages creative thinking. Research shows that walking in nature supports emotional wellbeing, helps with anxiety and low mood, and restores a sense of perspective. For many clients, the act of moving while talking allows for greater creativity and for new ideas to emerge
Walk and Talk sessions can be particularly supportive for neurodivergent clients, including ADHDers and autistic adults, who may find traditional therapy settings difficult. The less formal, side-by-side nature of walking therapy can ease the intensity of eye contact and reduce sensory pressure; silences feel more natural, and the gentle rhythm of movement often helps with focus and regulation.
We meet outdoors, whatever the season, at an agreed local spot in South Dartmoor or the Gara Woods area.
Sessions last the usual 50 minutes. We walk at a relaxed pace, stopping when needed. You don’t need special gear, just shoes, a coat suitable for the weather. I offer walking sessions in all weathers, though in the rare case of extreme conditions, we’ll reschedule.
We can teach you mindfulness and meditation techniques to help you reduce stress, increase focus, and improve your overall wellbeing. Let's explore the benefits of mindfulness and meditation together.
We offer Walk and Talk sessions charged at our standard session rate. We’ll agree the meeting point and route in advance. Accessibility, comfort, and safety are always considered, and confidentiality is maintained as carefully as in any other session.
